One Wall - One Concept - One Writer

MadC is known for massive and detailed concept walls. This year she is going to break her own record and paint her biggest and most elaborate concept wall ever. Just herself, without help.

The object: a gigantic 639m2 wall involving her characters and styles. She has started planning and sketching in January 2010. Here in this section you can follow the process of how one of the biggest productions ever is brought to life painted by one small girl. The concept of the wall called „Stylemachine“. As the name implies it will basically be a machine producing styles, including an laboratory scenario, rats, crazy professors and so on. MadC is in order to finish this huge wall until the december 2010. Get your update here almost every month in 2010 and see how that monster wall get done.

February 2010

It's still too cold outside to finish up the wall to a paintable state.
Hence, I spent more time sketching to transfer my ideas to paper. That's a bit trying as I don't want to do a regular wall with a couple of pieces and characters, which is easily done within a year. I want to tell a story.

The wall is extremely long, so I decided to do the concept like a pan in an animation with a lot of three-dimensionality to give the feeling of actually standing in the rooms. The point of view will be at about the real height when you're standing in front of the wall and look up at it. There are 4 vanishing points and every element will be put in according to the perspective. You will be able to walk along the wall and see the story evolve with every step you do.

The feel of the concept will be a mix of Jules Verne - antique elements with modern but used looking machines and some funny animation-like characters. I finalised the character design of the caretaker and the professor and I had some more fun with my cheeky rats. I designed some machines and robots and some of the rooms of course. There will be a blackboard in one room with a style looking like a blueprint, another piece in a tank and a lot of drawings on the walls etc. I'm curious if everyone will find all the massive and tiny pieces I'll put in at the end.
