Urban Art - Works from the Reinking Collection
vom 25.05.2009
"The Hamburg-based collector Rik Reinking is a man of conviction. He has for many years now been accompanying numerous artists in the scene with great passion and intensity. His collection now includes representative works by some of the most influential protagonists. These include such well-known names as Banksy (UK), DAIM (Germany), Brad Downey (USA), Os Gemeos (Brazil), Shepard Fairey (USA), and Zevs (France). The exhibition will be supplemented by several artistic stances and new works, which have in part been produced specifically for Bremen. In addition, artistic interventions are planned in the Hanseatic city’s public space. Thus the exhibition will not only afford insight into a still young, unusual collection, it is at the same time a venue for the most recent developments of non-conformist art form that is in a constant state of flux."

Jack Stewart
vom 29.04.2009
"A couple of weeks ago, I went to a book party at Alphabeta, in Greenpoint, a store and gallery dedicated to the arts and crafts of graffiti. The store has a rack that holds eight hundred cans of spray paint; the gallery occupies several thousand square feet, including an enclosed outside space that is a bit too urban to be called a courtyard. The book being celebrated was “Graffiti Kings: New York City Mass Transit Art of the 1970s, a reorganization of a dissertation by the late Jack Stewart, a New York artist who photographed the beginnings of New York graffiti and eventually befriended many of the writers. Stewart’s widow, Regina, writes in the book’s introduction: “When he became vice president and provost of the Rhode Island School of Design in 1975, it was ‘suggested’ that he acquire a PhD. (In December, the version that Jack submitted to N.Y.U. for approval, with color photographs hand-pasted into the pages, showed up on eBay. It has since been returned to N.Y.U.)" (Sasha Frere-Jones/The New Yorker)

Lee Quiñones Art Show in Italy
vom 18.04.2009
A street art pioneer, Lee Quiñones made the move from subway cars to canvas proving that "a true art movement never goes by the script."
His first solo exhibition in nearly 30 years at the Galleria Il Trifoglio Nero entitled Truth & Consequences is a great example of Quiñones' adroit ability to integrate both street culture and art history into his work. This capability is twofold; Quiñones blends traditional media like acrylic and charcoal with spray enamel but also the subject matter speaks to today's issues—all while evoking a feeling of romanticism and historical gesture.
