Graffiti New York
vom 20.07.2009
Former graffiti artist Eric “DEAL CIA Felisbret has spent over 30 years documenting New York City graffiti. Luke “SPAR ONE Felisbret is a graffiti artist and historian whose work has been widely exhibited. Together they launched www.at149st.com, a documentation of New York City graffiti’s culture and history. James Prigoff is coauthor of the classic Spraycan Art. He lives in Sacramento, California.
"Decades after the movement globalized, New York is still the mecca of graffiti culture. Painting there is a badge of honor, with graffiti artists from around the globe making pilgrimages to New York for that purpose. This is the city where it all began, yet few know the back story. Graffiti New York fills that gap, detailing the concepts, aesthetics, ideals, and social structures that have served as a cultural blueprint for graffiti movements across the world. The book features approximately 1,000 images, complemented by texts by the authors and relevant players in the movement, as well as descriptive graphics and sidebars. Ranging from the birth of simple signature tags to today’s vibrant murals, and covering the ups and downs of the movement, the culture’s value system, its social framework, the various forms of graffiti, and significant artists and crews, Graffiti New York is a major addition to Abrams' superb books on graffiti art."

Lady Pink Installs “Pink Brick Woman Reclining
vom 10.06.2009
The legendary graffiti artist Lady Pink just installed one of her massive acrylic and spray-enamel on panel pieces, Pink Brick Woman Reclining, in New York for all to see.
This massive piece was just installed at NYC’s Woodward Gallery Project Space and exhibits Lady Pink’s characteristic use of varying imagery to convey a larger message. Pink has been writing on the streets of New York for decades, holding her own among some of the very first male graffiti writers, so you can bet she has more than a thing or two to say via her artwork. New York Street Advertising Takeover
vom 27.04.2009
"Jordan Seiler's incrediblely ambitious "New York Street Advertising Takeover" became a reality yesterday, when over 120 illegal billboards throughout the city were white washed by dozens of volunteers.
NYSAT was organized as a reaction to the hundreds of billboards that are not registered with the city, and therefore are illegal. While illegal, these violations are not being prosecuted by the City of New York, allowing the billboard companies to garner huge profits by cluttering our outdoor space with intrusive and ugly ads.
After the illegal spots were white washed, late in the day yesterday over eighty artists transformed these spaces into personal pieces of art."
